MJD Mechanical geothermal installation FAQ

How Much Will I Save?

Answer:

Because it takes so little energy to move heat, you will see a radical reduction on your monthly heating expenses. The cost of natural gas (or other fossil fuel) is replaced with the cost of electricity of which the system takes very little to run.
Once geothermal heating system installers build the system, it uses electricity in three places to create and store heat.

1) The geothermal heat pump - unit that extracts heat from the fluid and distributes it around the building.
2) The pump pack - small unit on the wall of the mechanical room that pumps the fluid through the geothermal field.
3) The electric domestic storage tank - the geothermal heat pump will provide a minimum of 70% domestic hot water. An electric storage tank is used to provide the remaining hot water.

Again, the actual number will vary depending on the specific installation but many clients see a savings of 70% or 80% off their monthly heating and cooling bill.

Most geothermal users see payback of the initial cost (that is the cost difference between a conventional system and geothermal) in 3 to 7 years. The more your estimated monthly savings are, the faster payback will occur.
